Dear friends,
I always find the Remembrance Day extremely poignant and this year even more so as we have people dying in war yet again in Europe.

How do you measure your progress in yoga? Some of you may say that you measure it by how easily you can touch your toes, squat or how well you can do a sun salutation etc but let’s go beyond that and learn more about the exciting goals we can achieve.
In a sincere yoga practise you are on a path from ego to spirit. According to Vedanta, one of the key indicators of spiritual progress is that you become more joyful, lighthearted and carefree. You lose your self importance and can laugh at yourself and your self created melodramas. You become less anxious, less worried and more open to finding joy in the moment. You become less concerned about the opinions of others. I would say that you are starting to feel real freedom and liberation which is what the Hindu’s call Moksha.
Love, compassion and forgiveness become the ground state from where you live.
Kind wishes,
Berit

Hello friends,
Autumn and spring are my favourite times of year. I love the colours and seeing the change in nature. The last two weeks I have planted lots of bulbs which I find very comforting to have the trust that next spring they will give me loads of joy, colour and nectar for bees and other insects.

The day my mother died I wrote in my journal, “A serious misfortune of my life has arrived.” I suffered for more than one year after the passing away of my mother.
But one night, in the highlands of Vietnam, I was sleeping in the hut in my hermitage. I dreamed of my mother. I saw myself sitting with her, and we were having a wonderful talk. She looked young and beautiful, her hair flowing down. It was so pleasant to sit there and talk to her as if she had never died.
When I woke up it was about two in the morning, and I felt very strongly that I had never lost my mother. The impression that my mother was still with me was very clear.
I understood then that the idea of having lost my mother was just an idea. It was obvious in that moment that my mother is always alive in me.
I opened the door and went outside. The entire hillside was bathed in moonlight. It was a hill covered with tea plants, and my hut was set behind the temple halfway up. Walking slowly in the moonlight through the rows of tea plants, I noticed my mother was still with me. She was the moonlight caressing me as she had done so often, very tender, very sweet… wonderful!
Each time my feet touched the earth I knew my mother was there with me. I knew this body was not mine but a living continuation of my mother and my father and my grandparents and great-grandparents.
Of all my ancestors. Those feet that I saw as “my” feet were actually “our” feet. Together my mother and I were leaving footprints in the damp soil.
From that moment on, the idea that I had lost my mother no longer existed. All I had to do was look at the palm of my hand, feel the breeze on my face or the earth under my feet to remember that my mother is always with me, available at any time.

So I ran the Bath half marathon after all and I didn’t get injured. It was sooo hard but I feel so glad that I managed to complete it. Thank you for helping me raise £193 for the amazing local charity Time Is Precious and thank you Dave Baker for keeping me company and running with me.

Namaste dear friends,
Just one week left until we can start back practising yoga together again!
Just to clarify the rules that we need to adhere to when the classes start back. We will need to keep 2 meters apart, sanitise our hands and wear face masks until we are on our mats. Obviously if you have any Covid symptoms please stay at home. The government does not stipulate a maximum number for organised indoor activities other than the two meter rule. The Wells Town hall has still decided to cap the number to six students in Parkes room. The Elim Connect centre has said maximum 12 people. This means that I will only allow pre booked and pre paid people to come to the Wells Town hall classes but allow drop ins to the Elim Connect Centre on a first come first served basis and a payment of £8 (£7 if you pay for a block of six). If you miss a class I will try to fit you in another day the same week. The cost for a six week block will be £42.
As it gets warmer I will organise more yoga classes in the garden and also some evening classes 🙂 Please let me know if you want to be added to a garden yoga mailing list as I will sometimes organise classes at short notice if the weather looks good 🙂
Classes for next week:
Tuesday: 18:00 to 19:00 yoga (Google Meet) cancelled
Thursday: 17:30 to 18:30 yoga (Google Meet)
Friday: 15:00 to 16:00 garden yoga (weather permitting)
Please let me know what classes you are interested in.
